简介:Burgeoning demand for places over several years has taken this wide-ranging group of subjects into the top 20 for applications. But there was a 13 per cent drop in applications at degree level by March 2012, as higher fees were introduced, and an even bigger decline in the substantial cadre of Foundation degrees. The category covers a variety of courses, most directed towards management in the leisure and tourism industries. One additional institution in this year’s ranking takes the total past 50 for the first time. Most are post-1992 universities, but the two leaders are older foundations, with Surrey well ahead of Stirling at the top. Surrey’s 40-year reputation in hotel and tourism management helps to give it a near six-point lead. It is one of only 12 universities with average entry grades of more than 300 points and it achieved the best of an extremely modest set of results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Fourth-placed Exeter and Birmingham, in sixth place, are 20 points ahead of most of the rest for employment prospects. Both would have been higher but did not enter the RAE in this category – only 15 of the 51 universities and colleges did. Even in the top 20, some universities saw fewer than 40 per cent of graduates going into graduate-level jobs or further study. Exeter also has the highest entry standards, while Lincoln, in 18th place, has the most satisfied students. Satisfaction rates are generally high, most universities reaching at least 70 per cent approval in the 2011 National Student Survey. Central Lancashire, in third place, is the highest-placed post-1992 university and is joined in the top ten by Sheffield Hallam, Bournemouth, Chester, Plymouth and Brighton. Second-placed Stirling is the top university in Scotland, while Cardiff Metropolitan has that distinction in Wales. The 8 per cent unemployment rate is better than average for all subjects, but the unusually large numbers – 45 per cent – starting their careers in lower-level jobs relegate hospitality, leisure, recreation and tourism to the bottom three of the employment table. The subjects fare a little better in terms of starting salaries in graduate jobs, and the average of £17,814 is less than £2,500 better than the average for lower-level work.以下是2013年times英国大学排名酒店与旅游管理专业排名。
