简介:Electrical and electronic courses used to be the best recruiters of any branch of engineering until a decline set in for much of the last decade. But applications have recovered strongly over the past three years and the decline of nearly 4 per cent in 2012 was much less than the average for all subjects, leaving electrical and electronic courses within a few hundred of the total for civil engineering. Some natural applicants have been diverted into subjects such as computer games design, but there is renewed confidence in the more general courses as well. Most of the top courses demand maths and physics at A level, or the equivalent. Cambridge has a big lead in electrical and electronic engineering. It has by far the best research grades and a lead of nearly 90 points on entry standards. Southampton is once again the nearest challenger since Surrey’s slide from second to eighth place. Newcastle and Sussex, neither of which make the top ten, share top place for graduate destinations, with among the few 100 per cent employment records in any subject this year. The most satisfied students are at third-placed Manchester. Glasgow has widened its lead over Edinburgh as the top university in Scotland, while Bangor remains clear of Cardiff in Wales. Huddersfield is the leading post-1992 institution, but does not make the top 30 in a subject where old universities predominate. Employment rates have improved a little since last year’s Guide. More than half of the top 30 saw at least 80 per cent of leavers go straight into graduate jobs or further training, and the proportion dropped below 50 per cent at only four universities in the table. About half of the students – more in electrical engineering – come with qualifications other than A levels. Yet it is electrical engineering which has the higher proportion of firsts and 2:1s. Two thirds of the graduates in both subjects go straight into graduate jobs or continue their studies, while the 12 per cent unemployment rate is lower than in last year’s Guide. For those who do find graduate work, the average starting salary of more than £23,000 is in the top 15 of all subjects. But there has been a £3,000 drop in the average for lower-level jobs.以下是2013年times英国大学排名电气及电子工程专业排名。
