简介:Drama has become one of the most popular subjects in UK higher education – consistently in the top 20 for degree applications. But it suffered nearly a 15 per cent drop in degree applications when fees rose in 2012, with an even steeper decline in Foundation degrees and other courses. The smaller area of dance and the various degrees categorised as cinematics, which include photography as well as film studies, also saw the demand for places fall by more than 15 per cent. The subjects’ popularity has never been reflected in high entry grades, although 12 of the 91 universities and colleges in the table average more than 400 points at entry, compared with only six last year. For the first time, no institution slips below 200 points. Warwick retains the top position in drama, dance and cinematics for the third year in succession, although it does not have the highest score on any single measure. Queen Mary, University of London, is only a fraction of a point behind, in second place. It had much the best results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, when half of its submission was rated world-leading. Roehampton’s research in dance achieved an even higher score, but it was not sustained over the whole group of subjects in this category. Third-placed Glasgow remains the leading university in Scotland and Aberystwyth is the leader in Wales. Bristol, in fifth place, has the highest entry standards, while East Anglia boasts the most satisfied students, but did not enter the RAE in these subjects and only just makes the top 20 overall. For the fourth year in a row, by far the best graduate destinations score is at the Central School of Speech and Drama, part of the University of London, although even there a quarter of graduates did not find a graduate-level job or postgraduate course within six months of completing their course. Other employment scores remain low: even at some top-20 universities more than half of the leavers were unemployed or in low-level work six months after graduation. There are no post-1992 universities in the top 20, although Huddersfield comes close and leads a substantial group in the top 30. This is another table where the gulf in qualifications between entrants to new and old universities is evident, although for drama and dance in particular, this is unlikely to be the main criterion for selection. Some drama courses do demand English literature A level, however. Drama, dance and cinematics remains in the bottom four both for employment prospects and graduate salaries this year. Freelancing and periods of temporary employment are common throughout the performing arts, and less than half of all new graduates were in graduate-level jobs or still studying when the last employment survey was conducted.以下是2013年times英国大学排名戏剧、舞蹈和过场动画专业排名。
