简介:The “allied to medicine” category covers audiology, complementary therapies, counselling, health services management, health sciences, nutrition, occupational therapy, optometry, ophthalmology, orthoptics, osteopathy, physiotherapy, podiatry, radiography and speech therapy. Taken together, the subjects are among the 20 most popular at degree level and suffered only a marginal decline at the introduction of higher fees. Applications were down by less than 3 per cent in March 2012, following increases of more than 15 per cent in both the preceding years. Traditional universities monopolise the top ten, but big names such as Durham, Bristol and King’s College London find themselves outside the top 30. Glasgow enters the ranking in first place, despite not leading on any of the four indicators, while Aston slips to second place. Cambridge moves up to third, with entry standards that are 160 points (the equivalent of more than one A*) ahead of its nearest challenger. Strathclyde, at equal fourth, has the most satisfied students, and eighth-placed Leeds and University College London, two places lower, share the best of a mediocre set of research grades. Bangor, in 35th place, has the best employment score. It was the only university to see all its leavers go straight into graduate-level work or further study in 2010, although Exeter, in 15th place, came close. The choice of specialism naturally affects graduate employment rates, which range from better than 90 per cent positive destinations at ten universities to less than 50 per cent at a handful of universities in the bottom half of the table. Stiff competition for places in subjects such as optometry and physiotherapy has been pushing up entry grades, with 16 universities averaging at least 400 points on the UCAS tariff, while only five dropped below 250 in the latest survey. The table is more mixed than most in terms of the performance of new and old universities. Portsmouth is the highest-placed post-1992 institution, while Oxford Brookes, Glasgow Caledonian, Robert Gordon and the West of England all join it in the top 20. Across the whole range of subjects, almost half of the students arrive without A levels. The subjects are just outside the top ten for early employment prospects, having shot up the table in the last three years. Three quarters of all those completing a degree go straight into graduate jobs or continue their studies and only 8 per cent were unemployed at the time of the latest survey. Starting salaries have declined slightly since the last edition of the Guide, however, and are still not in the top 20.以下是2013年Times其他医学排名。
